It is mid December already which means it is very Christmasy around here! It smells of gingerbread and tangerines and Glühwein all the time and I simply love the atmosphere at the Christmas markets which is why I spend every free minute there! This last week was again very exciting and great:
1. A Friday Night Feast
Last Friday, we went to see some friends in Constance which is where Christian used to do his Bachelor degree. As soon as we arrived, we started preparing our delicious dinner as we all love yummy food and cooking! We basically had a lot of cheesy sauces and dips as well as bread rolls and cured ham accompanied by some fresh vegetables!!! Also, a good glass of wine could not be missed out on…
2. Christmas Market Constance
Friday was great and a very long night but Saturday was even better when we went to the Constance Christmas market. This is the only market I know where they have a two story Glühwein booth… you can even order cans of Glühwein instead of small mugs!!! Awesome!!! We stayed there until it closed around 10 and then headed home to have some yummy Chili Con Carne which we had already prepared in the afternoon.
3. Advent Advent
Something we do in Germany every year during Christmas time is light candles – one for every advent sunday before Christmas. Last weekend was the 2nd advent so we lit two candles to celebrate this. Also, we enjoyed some quality time with just the two of us – something that we barely have these days as we are always busy.
4. Yummy Pasta
I can’t believe I’ve never tried this before!!! Every time I tried spinach, it was creamy spinach and I hated it! Now, I tried fresh spinach for the first time and guess what, I LOVED it!!! We made yummy pasta with spinach and salmon this week and it was absolutely D.E.L.I.C.I.O.U.S!!! I am going to try more spinach recipes in the future!!! Do you like spinach???
5. A Christmas Tree
Wednesday night, we went to buy a Christmas tree for our new home. I am super excited as we found a really beautiful one! I can’t wait until we set it up in the dining room next week. Traditionally, Germans do not put up the Christmas tree before the 24th of December as it is supposed to be a Christmas surprise for the kids. This year, however, we are going to my hometown for New Year’s which leaves us with only a few days at home to enjoy the Christmas tree. Therefore, we decided that we will put it up the beginning of next week. I’ll keep you posted!!!
My parents are going to be here this weekend and we are all going to celebrate my mum’s birthday on Saturday and Christian’s birthday on Sunday. We will go out for dinner and will also enjoy some Christmas markets again I hope. I am also planning on making a yummy birthday cake for Christian which I will tell you more about next week.
Please also stop by tomorrow for my Tea Time Advent Calendar recap of the week. Here is what you missed last Saturday. You want even more tea? I tried a special green tea this week. You can read all about it here.
