The other weekend, we had my boyfriend’s sisters over for breakfast. Remember the day, we also made the chocolate mandarins? We did not only make those but also some delicious homemade bread…

Recipe: Home-made Bread

Last December, my boyfriend’s mum gave me this amazing baking book as a present in which I found the recipe that I’d like to share with you today:

  • 50g butter
  • 1/4 of lukewarm water
  • 25g yeast
  • 300g rye flour
  • 300g wheat flour
  • 1 tablespoon of salt
  • 1 table spoon of mixed spices (like marjoram, sage, tarragon and basil)
  • 4-5 table spoons of chopped parsley
  • a little bit of olive oil

  1. Spread some olive oil on a baking tray
  2. The the butter melt in the warm water, crumble the yeast into it and stir it well
  3. Sieve tje rye flour with half of the wheat flour into a bowl and add salt
  4. Then mix the flour with the melted butter, water and yeast until it is a smooth dough
  5. Beat the dough until it gets bubbles
  6. Cover the bowl with a tea towel and leave it at a warm place for around 50 minutes
  7. Pre-heat the oven to 190°C
  8. Add the remaining flour and the herbs to the dough and knead it well.
  9. Form a round loaf and use a spoon to create a hole in the middle of it so that you get a ring
  10. Cover the ring with a tea towel and leave it for another 20 minutes
  11. Spread some water on top of the loaf and dust some flour on top of it
  12. Put it in the oven for 20-30 minutes. For better taste, put a bowl of water into the oven when starting to bake the bread

This bread is a really healthy but also very delicious type of bread. We Germans are crazy about breads and bake all sorts of kinds. Maybe I do another one soon and share the recipe with you, too!

Have you ever made your own bread? Please share your recipes with me!
