Tree Project #11 Mixing Colors with Photoshop

Another awesome week with beautiful weather has started today. With this sort of weather I can hardly stay inside. Right now, while I am writing this post, I am sitting on the balcony with my laptop enjoying the late afternoon sun before Christian gets home.

This afternoon, I went to my tree again and as it would be too boring to post the same pictures again and a again (there is not a lot of change there lately…), I decided to practice my Photoshop skills a little bit and create a sort of mixed black/white and color picture. Here comes the result:

Tree Project #11

It is fairly easy to highlight certain parts of a black and white pictures. Here is how you do it:

  1. Use a normal color picture and open it with Photoshop.
  2. Duplicate the background layer and change the color of the top layer to black and white.
  3. Use the rubber tool to erase the parts you want to highlight on the top layer. This way, the colored lower layer shines through.

See how easy it is? I love pictures like that. I have already done some shoots in London with the typical telephone booth and red bus etc… I am going to share those with you at some point.

Have you ever done any mixing of b/w and color? What sort of pictures did you use for that and what did you highlight?

I wish you all a fantastic new week keeping my thumbs up that the weather stays as great as it is right now!
